After spending all day in Barnsley yesterday I thought I had done enough to earn myself a rest today. Consequently I've completed the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch this afternoon with the following results:
Blackbird 2
Robin 2
Dunnock 1
Great Tit 1
Coal Tit 1
Blue Tit 2
Treecreeper 1
Great Spotted Woodpecker 1
Chaffinch 2
Long Tailed Tit 1
Not a bad haul, but I could have done better. Unfortunately the rules forbid you to count birds actually flying overhead which would have significantly improved my tally. If you haven't already had a go, don't worry it's not too late to enter although you will need a pair of these now.

Meanwhile, in the age of austerity, I think I have done very well indeed with this bargain fished from the freezer this morning. For some reason Welsh lamb tastes better than other variants and I can assure you that this was well worth the asking price.
Being "up north" yesterday didn't give me a great deal of time to study the news coverage of the latest protests against tuition fees. The subject matter interests me for two reasons the first of which being the disastrous publicity this campaign has attracted so so far. The other reason, as I have stated before, is why these people are not complaining about the £billions this government gives away in "development aid" every year that could be spent on educating them instead.
Indeed it might be argued that these protesters are, by modern standards, racist, considering that just because they are British citizens they feel entitled to an education before poor students in Africa. Why are they not cheering and celebrating their descent towards stupifaction as a great and noble gesture of egalitarianism? After all, only the British National Party would facilitate the process of insuring that all British students have the absolute right to a free education and we all know how wicked and bad the BNP are?!
It would seem the Daily Mail might be on to their case, although having studied this video a couple of times it would appear the evidence is somewhat flimsy. Nevertheless the left now have an ideological problem here and I would suggest that ceremonial mass lobotomy might now be a safer option rather than exposure to accusations of hypocrisy. Despite the mess what a marvellous commitment to equality and racial harmony it would make.
